What Powers the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible?

2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse On The Road

The convertible shares its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 with the Dark Horse SC coupe, producing 795 ponies and 660 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Ford Racing engineers also brought the coupe's magnesium strut tower brace to the convertible to increase structural rigidity. A next-generation MagneRide electronic adaptive suspension is standard, although Ford gave it a different calibration to match the convertible's intended use.

The automaker partners with Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s RTR Vehicles on showroom-available special performance models while taking its ultra-high-performance Mustangs in-house under the Dark Horse name.

How Is the Convertible Different From the Dark Horse SC Coupe?

Ford doesn't position the convertible as another track-focused Dark Horse SC. Instead, its MagneRide suspension prioritizes comfort and touring over track performance. The different tuning gives each version its own purpose without changing the convertible's power output. Drivers still get the coupe's 795-horsepower V8, but in a Mustang designed primarily for high-performance street driving.

What Changes for the Dark Horse SC Convertible

Styling largely follows the Dark Horse SC coupe, including bodywork changes intended to improve aerodynamics and cooling. The obvious exception is the roof, which also eliminates having stripes run across the top.

Ford adds Precision Purple to the color palette along with a unique brake-caliper color. Black Onyx and Space Gray are available for the interior. The auto has yet to mention whether the convertible will offer the same special packages available on the coupe, including the Track Pack and Teal Accent Package. (And we don’t know anything about the other trims as of yet.)

When Can You Order the Dark Horse SC Convertible?

Orders open in fall 2026, with deliveries scheduled for spring 2027. Ford hasn't announced pricing for the convertible, but Dark Horse SC coupe is confirmed to start above $100,000, but there's no word yet on whether the convertible will cost more. Stay tuned at Alan Jay Ford of Wauchula!
